the week that was #9

I should truthfully be saying the fortnight that was – but somehow it just doesn’t sound the same.  All the weeks are blurring a little as my work life is a bit frantic (photoshoot for Cuisine), so I thought I would mention a few things coming up of the Market/Festival variety happening in Auckland and Wellington over the coming months.

Now that the evenings are become (occasionally at least) more summer-like and relaxed, Art In The Dark is back at Western Park from the 9-10 November.  With artists like Goff Van’t Hoff, Ian Hughes and the La Lumiere people (as well as many besides) this is an amazing family event.  So get yourselves over there and you might bump in to us!

St Kevins Arcade, that old master of special Auckland places will be having a market day every Sunday between the 4th November and 23rd December.  Starting at 7am for you early risers and ending at 1pm there will be Vintage Clothes, Shoes, Books, Vegan Cakes, Crown Lynn, Fabrics, Designer Wear and the perennial ‘much, much more’!

Market days of a different sort is coming up from the 9th to 11th November. Newmarket Festival is showcasing Art, Culture, Fashion and Food.  With artists including Dick Frizzell in store at Andrea Moore as part of the Art and Champagne Trail, High Tea at the Teed St Larder and see Gretchen Albrecht’s Violet Surge in-store at Nicola Waite. Go to newmarket.co.nz to check out the huge range of things to do – look out for Huffer ‘Welcome to Amexica’, I Love Ugly at Superette, Seed Gallery (I love Seed Gallery by the way) and a lot more. Tanya Jade (aka Misery) and TomTom will working on a collaboration on a wall on the corner of Khyber Pass and Park Road. You will need a ticket for entry – spend $50 and get a ticket as a free gift at 50 participating businesses.  I have a double pass to giveaway – go like my FB page and comment on the bottom of this post and it is yours.

One of my favorite illustrators Colleen of Dear Colleen will be finding her way to a few craft markets between now and Christmas.  The next one is Saturday 3rd November at Craft 2.0 at the St James Theatre 77/87 Courtney Place, Wellington 10am-4pm. She (as well as many others) will also be at MoAD Saturday 24 November at the Tyler St Garage 120 Quay St Auckland.  This is a wonderful chance to find all those lovely handcrafted gifts for Christmas presents, and I imagine, to find a few things for yourself as well!

It would be very remiss of me not to mention something for the Man in My Life.  A lover of all things with an engine (he just can’t help himself), Big Boys Toys is always a place to indulge in said engine related fantasies with cars, engines, fast cars, stunt drivers but I am convinced he just doesn’t notice the scantily clad young women working there (why? why?).  For all things testosterone-filled, Big Boys Toys is at the ASB Showgrounds on the 9th-11th November.

Share and Enjoy !
