obiqo skincare

It could be said that there is little point in me writing about skincare – as I certainly don’t consider myself an expert on the subject.  That said, I am a woman of  a ‘certain age’ with very sensitive skin. And the one thing I have always done when reviewing skincare of any kind, is actually use it. And use it for a good length of time. When you have sensitive skin, or at least as sensitive as mine, I figure that makes me the ‘canary in the mine’ for the rest of the population.

I recently got sent three products from the OBIQO (said OH-BE-CO) range to trial. The range is entirely new to me.  I am a stickler for  companies I know share the same philosophy as me when it comes to skincare.  I like my skincare to be as natural and as naturally derived as possible.   I like it to tread as lightly on the planet as possible (in terms of footprint) and it obviously to do as much of what it says as possible.  I personally don’t like things that are too highly perfumed, I think in part because the perfumes are what often irritate my skin. It would seem that OBIQO does pretty much all these things. Created by New Zealander Phillipa Fletcher, the products use the coastal plant, Sea Lavender which is interestingly farmed in France under strict ECOCERT (organic) conditions. Also used is Sea Kelp extract which is what must give it its great scent. Not that this product sets out to be unisex, but it could very definitely be so.

I have been using the OBIQO Protective Day Cream, Intensive Facial Serum and the Smoothing Eye Cream.  All have been great, all have been well tolerated by my fussy skin, especially the Intensive Facial Serum ($55)which I have really liked.  I often have great trouble with serums are they are usually just too strong for my skin. This one has been great and  my nearly-fifty-year-old skin has benefitted from it. Same for the Soothing Eye Cream ($49) – no reaction from my skin at all. The Protective Day Cream ($49) has a great mild fragrance and is SPF 15. As well as these three products they have a Facial Wash ($29) and a Gentle Facial Scrub ($39) both of which I would like to try as well.  I have trouble finding scrubs that don’t annoy my skin too much.

Canvas magazine in the weekend Herald put the Gentle Face Wash on their Things Going UP List… just saying…

The range is available here in New Zealand online and is already available in the UK, US and Canada
