homebase collections pops up
My favourite online store Homebase Collections has moved up from the gorgeous Hawkes Bay to open a store at 68A Ponsonby Rd, Auckland. It is such a delight to be able to see all the pieces of art, furniture, fabrics and accessories that up til now I have only seen online. Artist and designer Leanne Culy, is one talented woman – which is rather obvious with all her beautiful things in one spot! Her husband Brian Culy’s artwork also features and with other family members helping in store – there is a wonderful vibe as soon as you walk in.
One day I would love to own one of the pieces from Leanne’s Wooden Oar series, but I am currently obsessed with anything from her new Pegboard Collection – from the fabric, to the bedside tables but especially the pinhole lights in the yellow and duck egg blues. I also love her collaboration with Dick Frizzell – with the Woodgrain fabric. All her things have an ease about them – they bring real texture and interest to a space. We were lucky enough to pop in the first weekend they were open and Michelle got some great shots – and I asked a few questions…
A – Why did you decide to ‘pop up’ in Auckland?
L – We decided to pop up in Auckland as a brand building exercise, we are tucked away in Hawkes Bay which is possibly not the greatest way to cover a big market. We felt we were doing really good things and we wanted more people to know about them!
A – What has been the reaction to your gorgeous little pop up store in Ponsonby?
L – The reaction has been amazing! We have been completely blown away by all the great comments – people feel it is definitely something different.
A – What are your favourite pieces in store at the moment? My favourites are the Pinhole lights and the large sheep skin rugs…
L – I love the pinhole light shades as well and the bedroom setting with the pinhole bed side tables and bed covering – mixed with the Sammy the Seal cushions and the Cuisenaire print above the bed.
A – Do you have anything new and exciting in the pipeline?
L – We have a Bedside lampbase and a bucket light in the works, and we are hoping to get into more furniture as well
A – How long will you be in Auckland this time round?
L – We are open till the 12th October but I am sure we will be back!
Homebase Collections is at 68A Ponsonby Rd, but if you cant get to the store, go to their on-line store HOMBASE to check out all their beautiful pieces.
