ruby – the dreamers w2014
Winter already – frightening to be seeing winter already… but then Ruby have just shown a collection that could pretty much be worn right now. With our seasons feeling milder every year, the demarcation between winter and summer seems less and less all the time. Inspired by director Sofia Coppola’s cult classics and the melancholy-sweetness that they embrace, the RUBY Autumn/Winter 2014 collection pays homage to the rebellious and free-spirited youths of the 1968 student riots in Paris.
The collection was full of charcoal, grey marle and textured blacks, with doses of mustard yellow and cobalt blue. Later in the winter will see the release of pale pinks and sea greens. I have to say, the mustards are just beautiful, and worked beautifully with the greys and monochrome dying and prints.
A sun bleached tie-dye features as the prominent The Dreamers print this season on raw-edged denim, t-shirting and the softest fine knit scarves. It is so lovely to see the camel cashmere knitwear which just looks like it would be beautifully soft and perfect to wear.
With their trademark short hemlines and fabulous pants (as always) this is a collection with an athletic, wearable edge – with tie dying and denim to mess it all up a bit.
We got to chat with RUBY designer Deanna Didovich and asked a few questions about the collection:
What was your inspiration for this seasons collection?
This season was inspired by a number of influences, including Sofia Coppola cult classics, and the student riots in Paris in 1968.
What is the best part of working as a team?
When everyone is on the same page!
How do you decided what pieces will be included in the final collection?
It comes down to a balance of pieces we know our customers will love, and pieces that might be in a new silhouette or fabric that we want to introduce our customers to. It is also about putting together a cohesive range of colours and fabrics that will look great in store.
The Runway Show at the tail end of last year was fabulous! Who did the styling for the show?
Amelia Holmes, our Creative Consultant.
What pieces in the collection will be in your wardrobe?
I can’t wait to get my Just Love pleated skirt, and also a good selection of our basic tshirt range to wear everyday.
Your all-time favourite piece in the collection?
I would have to say the Breathless gown in Ivory Floral. It is really beautiful.
