new space at the vitrine
I popped into the Vitrine recently to find they had just unpacked a new container AND they had nearly doubled in size since my last visit! So I charmed Michelle into taking some shots of the space so you can see what they have in their new improved space… They have a fantastic selection of tables at the moment, and chairs – I particularly love the blue metal stackable chairs and yellow crates – what a beautiful colour combination!
I love these vintage pieces mixed into a modern space as they bring all their life and patina into a space and add another layer of interest. I recently used some of the dolly bins (in the shot below) turned upside down for a client as sidetables in a lounge to give a room a shot of quirkiness. It was a very formal space with lots of straight lines and I placed the zinc dolly bin (originally used for washing) between two grey wool retro chairs. It looked rather fabulous. Beside tables could be another way of using them. I have four of them in my garden filled with pink and yellow kangaroo paw on the edge of two small desks in the back garden. I just love the them… that said they are the first thing to disappear when a shipment arrives so if you are interested, I would put your name down for the next delivery (if they have found any in their travels). As with all of these things, they may not be around for much longer, as there are no more to be “made”. I remember in the 90’s when pine furniture (especially Irish) was very popular. The world-wide appetite for Irish Pine stripped the entire country of it and there is hardly any left anywhere to buy. I have a few pieces that I have hung onto for dear life!
The Vitrine has many of it’s pieces online here, and you can find them at inthevitrine.com and at 1A Grosvenor St Grey Lynn Auckland 1021 ph 3763158
