kowtow – anywhere but here aw2013
One of the biggest themes to come through this winter is the monochromatic. This is of course good news for me because the only time I ever stray from Basic Black is when I add white to the mix. Kowtow has simply one of the best black and white prints this season, the other being the two black and white prints from MAAIKE. Kowtow’s black triangles on both white and charcoal is a simple but highly effective print – allowing the drape of the clothes to do the talking without overpowering them. Kowtow’s Anywhere But Here Collection is inspired by themes of revolution and lost youth this winter. I love that Kowtow’s Gosia Piatek continues to design with a wide cross section of ages in mind, and retains a sense of both edge and freshness about what she does. Bold additions of orange, charcoal and a gorgeous winter white round the collection out. Being the trouser-wearing-girl that I am, I appreciate the two key trousers pieces – the slim legged Seattle Pant and the nineties inspired unisex Lazy Pant. The Lazy Pant will definitely be coming home with me as I can see that becoming the winter weekend pant. The Lawlessness Dress and the Building Block Scarf will also be coming home with me.
I love the new more tailored feel to this collection – especially the coats and cardigans. I have seen a quiet shift away from too much volume this season, and am all for that to continue. The Collectivist Cardigan and the Could Be Loved Coat are perfect examples. The dresses continue to be strong pieces of any Kowtow collection, I love both the Rebellion Dress and the Such Promise Dress. The Building Block pieces continue from season to season – all still beautifully made in organic fair-trade cotton. The dying process is still free from formaldehyde, nickel, lead and other heavy metals. The cotton is still the same beautiful quality that holds its colour and shape wash after wash.
This year has been a busy one for Kowtow with them placing as one of the finalists in the DHL Express Fashion Export Scholarships AND winning the fashion category at The Green Lifestyle Awards 2012 in Australia.
